Mais Oui!

French Ambassador Pierre Vimont opened his spectacular residence in Kalorama Thursday night for a reception in honor of Arena Stage’s current world premiere of Legacy of Light. We snapped this of him with Arena’s artistic director Molly Smith.

Legacy of Light is written by award-winning DC playwright, Karen Zacarias (right), who’s with Arena Stage’s Janet Butler Berry and board member Roderic Woodson.

Arena board members Judy Lynn Prince and Beth Newburger Schwartz raved about the play.

The Play’s the Thing!

We headed to Arena’s Crystal City stage to check out Legacy of Light and see what everyone had been talking about. Actress Lise Bruneau as scientist Emilie du Chatelet shares the stage with Stephen Schnetzer as Voltaire.

The play transitions between 18th century France and modern day America. Carla Harting as Olivia, an astrophysicist who struggles to grasp motherhood, scientific discovery, and the art of juggling work and family, shares the stage with Lindsey Kyler as Millie and Michael Russotto as Peter. You can see it through June 14.

Food!

We were at Grosvenor Auditorium at the National Geographic building for a private screening of Food, Inc. which opens June 12. Featuring interviews with Eric Schlosser of Fast Food Nation, filmmaker Robert Kenner posits that the corporations that control our food supply often violate our health, worker safety, and the livelihood of farmers. During a discussion with the director, we were advised to purchase from local farmers’ markets and go without meat one day a week.
