| We've been waiting a long time to hear this from a retail landlord: ?We see more demand for junior box and anchor space than we have since before the recession started.? That came from Mark Worley, the SVP of the Southeast for Centro Properties and also one of ourfeatured panelists at tomorrow's Atlanta Retail Summit at the Westin Buckhead Atlanta (sign up!). Mark says retailers such as HH Gregg, Marshalls, the various grocer chains, and Big Lots are all back in growth mode. Even Academy Sports is seeking some 16 stores throughout the Southeast, he says. And while rents are still low and concessions still high overall, Marks says, ?We're starting to see pockets of competitive bidding for space. If it's the right spot, they kind of realized the free lunch is over.? |
