BELTLINE BASICS
May 27, 2010
No, this isn't the same shot. We snapped this closer to City Hall East. You can see where the old railroad ties are being moved (and piled up) to make way for a path. But let?s back up for a brief BeltLine refresher: The plan is to develop a new light-rail system along a 22-mile loop of historic rail lines. Alongside the new transit will be multi-use trails for walking, biking, and so on, plus plenty of parks and green space. The goals are to connect our neighborhoods, spur economic development, and improve our quality of life. The BeltLine will rely on a mix of public and private funding, but the bulk of public infrastructure dollars will come from the tax allocation district, as well as federal, state, and other local sources. |
