CITY GETS OLD AJC HQ
November 9, 2010
The old home of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is now city property. Cox Communications, owners of the AJC, donated 72 Marietta Street downtown to the City of Atlanta, including the six-acre parcel it sits upon. Mayor Kasim Reed made the announcement this morning. The newspaper vacated the building— valued at $50M— earlier this year and moved out to the 'burbs, taking residence at 223 Perimeter Center Pkwy. The City did not disclose specific plans for the property, but the Mayor says it's ideal for consolidating city offices, particularly public safety. We say fire up the printing presses and send out the nation's most fancy tax returns. |
