| We got to chat with a couple of Carlton Fields' newest attorney hires yesterday about the world of CMBS. Carlton Fields just hired Bob Barnes (above), Lee Lyman, and Marci Schmerler for its Atlanta office. Bob and Marci say that the rate of new CMBS issuances hasslowed down throughout the year after a strong start. ?Uncertaintyis the big problem right now,? Bob says (with certainty), citing concerns about the euro and the European economy. |

| Marci (who sent us this pic of her dog Maxwell) says not only global markets but uncertainty as to what regulators will do with the CMBS market are also affecting investor appetite, particularly which investors will retain the most risk in CMBS. ?There's a lot of behind-the-scenes [activity] going on in the securitization side,? she says. ?That is slowing things down.? Maxwell prefers to keep his assets secure by burying them. |
