US National Parks Service's Guy Lapsley has one word to describe the largest of the early 20th Century Sears warehouses, now City Hall East, on Ponce de Leon Ave: ?imposing.? The brick facade, the oversized windows, its looming presence over the Midtown street—?those are the kinds of things that we really want to see preserved,? Guy tells us, and he's the one who decides whether Jamestown gets some $15M in historic preservation tax credits. As we reported two weeks ago, the investment firm's acquisition of the property is pending this tax resolution, and the company recently submitted a new design proposal. Next step: The parks department will give a green light or offer suggestions for changes, likely within a few weeks. |
