FINDING MORE SENSE OF PLACES
July 12, 2012
Jamestown Properties is working to acquire several retail-centric mixed-use deals in major cities. Jamestown's Matt Bronfman(above, with Mayor Kasim Reed), a panelist at Bisnow's 3rd Annual Atlanta Capital Markets Summit, July 26 at the Westin in Buckhead (get yer tickets here) tells us Jamestown is pursuing new acquisitions in DC, California, and Seattle. ?We're seeing the better opportunities in the retail sector right now,? he says. But there's a catch: It has to be urban and it has to have a key location and a ?sense of place.? | ||
Jamestown's Chelsea Market (above) is one of those ?sense of place? projects. Capital is seeking retail that either caters to the discounters (aka Walmart) or the luxury urban retailers. ?I worry about that mushy middle,? he says. (When asked for comment, sweet potatoes said, "that's offensive.") It's retail projects that offer a unique destination experience that will help retailers thrive. ?If you're not selling a sense of place, then I think a lot of things will be bought and sold over the Internet.? |
