GM EYES ATL FOR INNOVATION CENTER
October 15, 2012
General Motors may be giving an economic boost to metro Atlanta. And a bunch of well-paying tech jobs.
Sources tell us that GM is considering Atlanta for one of its massive data/IT facilities, similar to one announced for Austin last year. Called ?innovation centers,? GM announced plans to hire some 10,000 techies to staff four of these centers in various parts of the country (the other, so far, is in Warren, Mich.). Sources say GM is scouting sites in metro Atlanta, including Central Perimeter for a center that would be around 250k SF. If Atlanta can pull it off, it would be one of the biggest economic development coups for the region this year, and especially Central Perimeter, which snagged that massive State Farm office and most recently, the Krystal HQ. A GM spokesperson declined to comment. We then offered our silence in exchange for a free car. (Just kidding. Unless it's a Jaguar F-Type.)
