Grady: Two Reasons to Celebrate
This morning, officials officially opened the newly renovated Grady Memorial Hospital Burn Center. On hand: Georgia Power CEO Mike Garrett, whose firm and parent Southern Co. contributed $3 million. One of only two burn centers in the state, the remodeled facility includes 23 intensive and intermediate care beds and a new outpatient clinic. Grady folks have another reason to be in a good mood: The hospital turned a profit in 2009. That was not a typo; CEO Michael Young tells the AJC the hospital was roughly $34 million in the black. Even if you don't include one-time cash infusions and some accounting procedures (that don't represent actual money), the hospital still brought in $10 million more than it spent. |
