MORE HOUSING AT KSU?
June 14, 2011
More student housing could be coming to Kennesaw State University (Go Owls). That is, if the KSU Foundation gives the okay this week.
KSU's director of residential life Jeff Cooper tells us that he's awaiting word whether the foundation will approve the financing of a 415-bed student housing facility on the campus that will open next fall. And with enrollment jumping by at least 500 students every new year, it's something desperately needed, Jeff says. He's one of our panelists for Thursday's Atlanta Student Housing Summit at the Westin Atlanta Buckhead hotel (act quickly, tickets are running out).
Whether or not the foundation approves, the private sector already sees a perceived need for more student housing. As we reported last week, Birmingham-based Capstone Cos is about to start construction on a 217-unit student housing complex across from the campus (on land pictured above). Of course, on-campus student housing is still a relatively new thing for the university, which only opened its first facility in 2002 when it transitioned into an on-campus university. Since then, the campus-living student population has risen to more than 3,000 with four student housing complexes, Jeff tells us.
