New Sheriff on Howell Mill
May 5, 2010
An Atlanta real estate family that traces its lineage to the mid-1800s is still full of life. Quill Healey II, whose family history includes landmark properties such as the Healey Building and William-Oliver Building downtown, continues to grow his budding retail empire.
Yesterday we snapped this of Quill?s latest addition, an incredibly busy stretch of Howell Mill Road in Buckhead that's home to a popular Willy?s Mexican Grill, a post office, and one of Atlanta's longest-standing McDonald?s. Quill and partner Eric Weatherholtz, principals of Healey Weatherholtz Properties, acquired the 5-acre site for $5.7M. Rob Jordan of Jordan Co. repped Healey Weatherholtz. Novare Group, which originally assembled the site, had planned a major mixed-use project, but the recession thwarted that. Healey Weatherholtz now dominates the 1900 block of Howell Mill, where it also owns the Howell Mill Shops across the street.
Early this morning, we snapped the Shops Around Lenox, which Healey Weatherholtz bought last summer and is updating. The high-profile strip center sits directly across from Lenox Square, and Healey Weatherholtz is aggressively going after independent restaurants and cool boutiques, like Birmingham-based Swank, which opened this year. Part of the transformation is about turning the center?s big box location, a former CompUSA, into a hipper space.
