REPORTING ON HOPS
The Atlanta Press Club hosted a party last night at the former Macy?s building downtown, and we had to be there for two reasons. First, we love drinking cold beer after work with our brethren, especially when it's free. Second, we wanted to check out the new Meehan?s pub that opened last month at 180 Peachtree, where Macy?s and its predecessor conducted business for decades. The bar did not disappoint. It had an authentic Irish pub feel complemented by Atlanta artifacts, including an old map where the city's northern limits are placed near the home of Fox Theatre. We're glad someone is addressing the dearth of downtown watering holes. | |
With so many journalists in one place at one time, we figured politicians would show up. Several made appearances. We ran into Dr. Deborah Honeycutt, who wants to unseat U.S. Rep. David Scott in District 13 just south and west of Atlanta. Shown here with Atlanta City Councilman Aaron Watson, Honeycutt hopes to ride the current (perpetual?) wave of dissatisfaction with Congress. A Republican, she ran against Scott in ?08, so she has some practice. If elected, she says she'll work to limit terms. |
