RETAIL FIGHTS . . . AND MILAN
May 11, 2011
Arnall Golden Gregory's Partner Abe Schear just returned on a business trip from Milan, Italy (yeah, poor guy). Anyway, while there, Abe (seen here post-Milan) filled us in on the speech he gave at the International Association of Young Lawyers. He says much of the talk dealt with how the US is behind on any sort of consistent environmental requirements or federal standard, unlike many European countries. ?There is no one standard,? Abe says. ?You basically have jurisdictional disputes.? It's especially noticeable with retail real estate where environmental and green requirements that add costs in one county may not be there in a neighboring county. Guess what jurisdiction wins the new project? ?In essence, you got the counties competing with one another.? |
