| We chatted with The Shopping Center Group's co-CEO Sam Latone after his firm's big merger with Northwest Atlantic Real Estate Services, one of New York's largest retail brokerage firms. In fact, we spoke with Sam (right) coming off an airplane with The Shopping Center Group's COO Bob Wordes and chairman David Birnbrey. Sam tells us that retailers are actually concerned about a shortage of space, particularly in denser urban markets because of a dearth of new developments. ?We're seeing retailers and restaurants start to look at a quality level one step down,? he says. Atlanta may still be behind the curve due to the extent our retail market got hurt in the recession. But Sam says new retail development is possible here. ?Do I expect the type of development activity that we saw in the 2000s? No.? |
