SCHMOOZIN' THIS MORNIN'
August 12, 2010
In New York this morning, our Bisnow Sustainability Summit filled the ballroom of the NY Bar Association on W. 44th. Seven top panelists spoke on what moderator Stephen Del Percio of Arent Fox called a pretty interesting year for the topic, following the BP oil crisis, stalled climate change initiatives, several pieces of green legislation, hot weather, and surging energy consciousness. GSA Chief Greening Officer Eleni Reed, on hand from DC, said while taxpayer benefit is foremost, they'll consider a longer payback period than commercial might because they hold assets for longer. Tishman head of sustainability Riggs Kubiak echoed others that while their usual focus is of course the bottom line, they occasionally innovate even if the payback is uncertain, as for example with ice chiller plants and solar power. |
