SIVEWRIGHT-ON ABOUT ATL
December 1, 2011
He's not officially in the post yet, but we chatted with JLL's new market director for Atlanta, Mike Sivewright, about what he sees in Atlanta. ?I think the biggest challenge the Atlanta market faces is job creation,? Mike says (clearly working the phones already), adding that the lack of jobs is keeping the metro area's office vacancy rate high. ?And we have a long road ahead.? Mike, who handled a portion of Bank of America's CRE portfolio for JLL in Charlotte the last four years, is bullish on Atlanta's industrial market. He sees it bottoming out and potentially turning, surprising people in 2012. Mike said the talk at a Charlotte Chamber of Commerce function earlier this week was almost exclusively about Chiquita's HQ move to the area. ?They were really celebrating pretty heavily that night,? he says. (With banana splits?) It was an HQ that Atlanta lost out on, but Mike says that doesn't mean we're out for other big relos. ?I know that we may have lost a few competitons recently, but Atlanta is going to win its fair share of companies in the next 12 to 18 months.? |
