Selig Eyes Mixed-Use in Athens
Athens has attracted another big-time Atlanta developer with its old-school charm. According to proposals filed with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Selig will develop a 10-acre, mixed-use project in Downtown Athens, right off Oconee and Broad streets. The project calls for 125k SF of retail space and 400k SF of apartments (no indication on the number of units), according to the development of regional impact filing. "The project will provide pedestrian and bicycle connectivity to the Firefly Trail System," Selig officials state in the report. The $80M development is projected to be finished by April 2015 and is estimated to generate $2M in sales taxes and a little more than $1M in property taxes annually.
