| Discount stores have conquered major real estate in the current economy. We asked Franklin Street senior director Monetha Cobb(here with Arcane Properties' Suzanne Ruth and Retail Leasing Advisors? Shannon Martin) what's up. She says while there isn't one particular ?hot? retailer, discount concepts are expanding. Dollar Tree is opening new stores throughout the Southeast and expanding its store size to 10K SF. Five years ago, Dollar Tree acquired DEAL$(a multi-price point concept) and has opened five new locationsthroughout the region and expects 15 more. Then there's women's apparel retailer Cato. It's not a discount retailer, but it's opening a slew of new stores and affiliate brands (like Fashion Metro and Versona) throughout Charlotte and the Southeast. Why the increase?
