Sustainability, Cities Future For HQs
Hines' John Heagy sat down with HOK's prez Bill Hellmuth and Chilton Architects' Jon Pickard this month during his firm's speaker series on the biggest changes in development. "The biggest change is people taking sustainability really seriously," Bill says. "If you told me 10 years ago that the most recent four downtown office buildings we just completed were LEED Platinum, I'd say you were nuts." Jon says for corporate HQs, there's two modes of thinking: Being closer to the city or "to go off in the woods and create this Arcadian world for your employees to live happily ever after." Jon says the better of the two, in his estimation, is to "engage the cities... I think that strategy is the one that will engage the Millennials."
