Unsolved Mysteries: Gold Kist Buyer
June 11, 2013
It's the big CRE mystery of the week: Who is buying the old Gold Kist building in Dunwoody? (Where is Columbo when you need him?)
One of the last big chunks of empty office space in Central Perimeter—the 262k SF former Gold Kist office building at 244 Perimeter Center Pkwy—has been on the market for months. But sources confirm that an unnamed developer has it under contract. After chasing leads, we know who isn't buying it: Greenstone Properties and Seven Oaks Properties—both previously expressed interest. (Start playing your at-home versions of the game showProcess of Elimination.) Binswanger's Jim Medbery, who's selling it for JBS Realty, won't let the cat out of the bag.
As space in Central Perimeter dwindled—especially with the huge influx of State Farm—more and more turned their eyes to 244 PCP. Even Dunwoody Mayor Mike Davis (right with Sandy Springs'Andrea Hall at our recent Future of Central Perimeter event)previously told us he wanted to consider raising the hotel/motel tax to buy the property for a Wimbledon-level tennis facility. (Minus the rain and snooty spectators.) Sources did say one of the interested parties, Greenstone, was eyeing it as a potential location for InterContinental Hotel's HQ out of Ravinia. We'll keep you posted.
