What Chicago's Tech Tenants Want
September 3, 2013
Chicago is also drawing its share of tech companies. What landlords need to know: they need flexibility for their uncertain space needs,12-month leases (a lifetime for most startups), and enough space for heads-down and private time, according to Chicago Creative Space founder and Cushman & Wakefield director Max Chopovksy(snapped with his wife Andrea in Hong Kong). These startups will plant a flag anywhere from Bucktown to Highland Park (sometimes finding space on Craigslist, as well as furniture and a guy who will steal that furniture). When companies outgrow their co-working spaces, they'll opt for economical subleases in River North and the West Loop, spaces within the Loop, or even renting a few offices from more established companies.
