Tad Leithhead: Transit Top Priority For Cumberland CID
The Cumberland area is coming to transit religion in a big way. Cumberland CID chairman Tad Leithead announced this morning at our Atlanta 2016 Roundup & Outlook event at the InterContinental Buckhead that the organization—historically focused on roads—will have a transit focus.
“Our No. 1 objective...is to bring a comprehensive transit solution” to the Cumberland CID area, Tad said to a wave of applause.
Cumberland CID's Malaika Rivers (above, with Atlanta City Council president Ceasar Mitchell and Skyline PR's Tony Wilbert) was quick to point out that the CID is “not exactly sure how we're going to develop the approach” to mass transit in the area. And Tad conceded he's unsure how the CID's transit ideas will jibe with the rest of the county since the election of new Cobb County Commission chairman Mike Boyce.
“If I know anything for certain, it's we're in a very unpredictable political environment now,” Tad says. "None of us would have predicted the events of the last 18 months."
When asked after the panel, MARTA's Keith Parker (here) says no elected officials in either Cobb nor Gwinnett have reached out to the transit system for any discussions on a possible expansion.
