Bisnow Scoop: Piedmont Hospital Floating $500M Hospital Expansion At Sheffield
A year after acquiring the Sheffield Medical Building in Midtown last year, Piedmont Healthcare officials have begun floating plans for the land that could include a $500M hospital expansion at the site.
Sources tell us in recent weeks, Piedmont Hospital CEO Patrick Battey has been meeting with leaders of nearby neighborhood associations, including Brookwood Hills, about the hospital's intentions for the 78k SF medical building at 1938 Peachtree St.
Sources tell us that Piedmont officials, expressing a need for expansion, plan to raze the existing MOB and build a multi-story facility on the site. Details of the use of that facility were not known by press time, but sources say it could house an expansion of Piedmont's cardiac division and that overall project costs could reach $500M.
And expansion is needed, we're told, since Piedmont's current facility in SoBu is at capacity. Sources also say Piedmont has already selected Brasfield & Gorrie, a firm that has extensive hospital and healthcare project experience, including with a Children's Healthcare of Atlanta expansion and the construction of Florida Hospital Ginsburg Tower in Orlando, as the general contractor. Officials with Piedmont Healthcare declined to comment.
