Mystery Manufacturer Bringing 900 Jobs to Milledgeville
It's a project that will invest more than $27M and bring 900 new jobs to Milledgeville. But what exactly Project Sparta is at this point is still a major secret.
What little we know has been revealed in a DRI filing with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs since it has regional impact: The Development Authority of the City of Milledgeville and Baldwin County are in talks with "a large, startup manufacturing company" that will locate its mystery manufacturing business to a nearly 700k SF manufacturing plant formerly used by Rheem.
Sources tell us the startup is being funded by a private equity group that has done similar projects in other states. It's also said to be in talks to buy the darkened plant at 138 Roberson Mill Rd. The plant sits on a 94-acre site and is served by two rail providers—Norfolk Southern and CSX.
Officials with Milledgeville did not return calls seeking comment. Cushman & Wakefield represents the warehouse, but Ray Stache and Chris Copenhaver did not return calls seeking comment.
