Rooker Signs Exel for 1M SF Distribution Hub
Rooker Development has just inked a deal with Exel Logistics to man its 988k SF big-box distribution hub at the former Shannon Mall site in Union City, John Rooker tells us.
Rooker is already in the thick of development with a 240k SF office/film studio project being done in partnership with 404 Studio Partners at the 90-acre site. “The office building is up and we are tilting the 80k SF stages one to four and 54k SF stages five to six next week,” says John (snapped here with his father, company founder Jack Rooker).
The distribution center was part of the initial vision of the project once Rooker purchased the shuttered mall last year along with partners for $5M after its foreclosure. Shannon Mall (last named Union Station Mall) shuttered for good in 2010.
Exel's deal is a big vote of confidence to the veracity of the Union City site for industrial. It's just off I-85 and just under 10 miles south of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Its location, just outside of College Park, also is part of a growing cluster of film studios on the Southside of Atlanta, including EUE Screen Gems and Tyler Perry's plan to transform Fort McPherson into a studio mixed-use project.
