North American Properties Breaks Ground On Affordable Edge
Prolific developer North American Properties has officially started on its affordable Beltline mixed-use apartment project. Called Edge, the 350-unit apartment project will dedicate 30% of the units for affordable workforce housing, development officials stated in a release.
The project on DeKalb Avenue will be mixed with 29K SF of retail, restaurants and loft office and a pedestrian bridge to connect it to the Beltline's Eastside Trail. The site was partly owned by Atlanta Beltline Inc., which purchased the former Aramark land two years ago in an effort to drum up interest for an affordable housing project, according to Curbed Atlanta. Edge is expected to open in 2019.
North American Properties has been on a big development kick in Atlanta during this cycle. Aside from the much-vaunted Avalon mixed-use project in Alpharetta, it is in the process of redeveloping Colony Square in Midtown as well as developing a mixed-use project adjacent to the Infinite Energy Arena in Gwinnett County.
