Walton Gets Past First Hurdle for Massive Gwinnett Project
A massive "Gateway to Gwinnett" gets the green light from county planners. As we first reported here, Walton Development and Management's proposed 160-acre mixed-use project at the intersection of University Parkway and Winder Highway called Sugarloaf Crossing—and described as the Gateway to Gwinnett by developers—got approval to rezone the assemblage from the Gwinnett County Planning Commission in a unanimous vote this week. Next up is the Gwinnett County Commission vote on Sept. 22. The project—downsized from initial plans—could include 1.1M SF of Class-A office and 275k SF of retail space in a campus setting that will have green space, walking trails and public plazas. Still, actual delivery of the project could be as much as a decade out, officials stated during Tuesday's hearing. [GP]
