RaceTrac Races to ATL with Big HQ RFP
Atlanta's hometown fuel and food retailer could be shaping up for a major HQ build-to-suit here.
RaceTrac Petroleum is edging closer to hitting the market with an RFP that could see the Cobb County-based retailer seek sites for a build-to-suit HQ building or perhaps anchoring a new development, sources tell us. RaceTrac is among the 50 largest private companies in the US, according to Forbes Magazine, with revenues in excess of $8B last year, and currently houses its nearly 200k SF HQ at Cumberland Center IV.
But sources say RaceTrac's recent growth spurt—operating more than 350 RaceTrac and RaceWay convenience stores in the Southeast and growing—has led to corporate operations outgrowing the facility. RaceTrac is interviewing various brokerage firms in town for an RFP representation, sources say. Little else is known about where it plans to look or the exact size of the RFP, although one source familiar with the company says RaceTrac did eye the site that's now home to SunTrust Park and the Braves Stadium before the team purchased it last year. RaceTrac's Ashleigh Womack says the company is "exploring" its options but declined to elaborate. "We're growing. We're definitely looking for additional space," she says.
