Atlanta’s Construction Bounce-back
Smith & Howard partner Mark Abrams is seeing more construction cranes in the Atlanta skyline from his office in Atlantic Station. Let’s not jump the gun, but it’s possible that we may be back to 2001 activity levels. Consider this: Mark says city contractors are busy, with about 500k SF of office space under construction, and with additional capacity potential in the pipeline. Downtown is leading the way with the growth of startup hubs; Midtown is enjoying incredible growth with an emphasis on green space; newbie “West Midtown” is booming in its hip new incarnation after its old industrial life; and Buckhead’s Fuqua Development (which brings Atlanta its first Shake Shack) is inspiring more creative development. In Georgia in general and Atlanta specifically, we’re behind the national rebound curve, but we’re seeing faster bounce-back now that the real rebound is finally happening.
