New Riverwalk Hotel Gets Partially Approved
Hilton’s proposed 24-story boutique hotel at North St. Mary’s and East Commerce streets got the go-ahead from the Historic Design and Review Commission—for some of the building.
The Commission held back full approval though, citing concerns with the ground level of the River Walk-fronting site, according to the San Antonio Business Journal. The Commission granted conceptual approval to the development, which is expected to cost $60M, but required the plans for the first two floors be revisited, particularly the cantilevered portion of the proposed hotel that would hover above the River Walk. Members were concerned that it would loom over pedestrians below.
The project is being spearheaded by San Antonio-based Crockett Urban Ventures partner Chris Hill and Austin-based Merritt Development Group.
The hotel will (eventually) feature 195 rooms, 18 floors, and retail and restaurant space. [SABJ]
