4 Hotels Coming To Downtown Austin
Downtown Austin can recently be identified more easily by cranes and scaffolding than by the Austonian, 360 Condos or Frost Bank Tower. Among the many developments coming to the 512, these four hotels have caught our eye.
Waller Park Place
Sutton Co's mixed-use development along Waller Creek will have one tower with 440 units of multifamily and 75k SF of office, and another 48-story building with condos and a hotel. The three-acre project is the largest private development to ever come to Austin.
Fairmont Austin
With 37 stories of hotel connected to the Austin Convention Center (via a fancy canopy walk), the Fairmont will have no trouble filling its 1,068 rooms when it opens in August 2017. At 1.4M SF, the Fairmont Austin will be the largest Fairmont in the world and the second-tallest tower in the Austin skyline behind the Austonian. Developer Manchester Financial Group partnered with Gensler to design this skyscraper on Red River and Cesar Chavez streets.
Austin Proper Hotel & Residences
After bringing Goldman Sachs into the investor mix this summer, Austin Proper looks like it's in good shape to deliver 500k SF of mixed-use in 2018. The project will have 244 hotel rooms, 99 for-sale condos and more than 12k SF of retail in the Second Street District on 2nd and Neuces streets. Kor Group is developing the project as part of the GreenWater site redevelopment.
Aloft/Element Hotel
Two hotel brands claim this 34-story tower on Congress Avenue and 7th Street (pictured is the Dallas development). A restaurant with patio dining will join more than 400 rooms. Developer White Lodging brought on HKS to design the (hopefully) LEED-certified tower set to deliver summer 2017.
