Plan For Another Bridge Connecting Hotel, Convention Center Gains Momentum
Plans for another bridge connected to the Austin Convention Center is gaining traction in City Hall. A proposed skybridge connecting the Downtown Hilton Austin to the Convention Center was recommended by the planning commission and will head to City Council for approval, the Austin Business Journal reports.
In April, the same commission delayed action. Many, including Commissioner Greg Anderson, have criticized the bridge for separating the “haves and the have-nots.” Austin Convention Enterprises Inc. is the nonprofit seeking the bridge.
So far, the Design Commission, Urban Transportation Commission and Downtown Commission have all recommended approval of the project.
Work for the $6M canopy walk connecting the Convention Center to the Fairmont Austin is underway. The Fairmont is set to deliver in August.
