HomeAway To Call Austin Home For 2,000 More Employees
Home-sharing giant HomeAway is already based in Austin, but plans to develop a 315K SF office tower has it calling the city home in an even bigger way.
The company is planning an expansion at the Domain that will bring an additional 2,000 employees, the Austin American-Statesman’s 512tech reports.
Austin-based Endeavor Real Estate Group and Dallas-based Tier REIT will develop the 16-story building, called Domain 11, at the north end of Alterra Parkway. Endeavor and Tier are lining up building permits now, but could break ground between the next 60 and 90 days.
HomeAway could start hiring new employees and relocating existing employees into the building in early 2019.
HomeAway President John Kim told the Statesman the company is well positioned to attract talent and is hiring at a rapid rate worldwide, especially in the design, engineering and data scientist fields. Kim expects many of the new employees in Domain 11 will come from the local talent pool.
HomeAway has more than 1,500 employees in three Austin offices now, including about 750 at the Domain. Domain 11 will allow HomeAway to consolidate, but it plans to retain employees in its Downtown and South Austin hubs.
In 2015, HomeAway was acquired by Expedia for just under $4B. Owners and property managers who use HomeAway generated $2.7B in Q1 2017, a nearly 50% increase compared to 2016. More than 2 million homes are listed across 190 countries on HomeAway.
