Christmas Arrives Early For San Antonio With IKEA, 800K SF Project Announcement
Weitzman has dropped news of an IKEA-anchored retail plaza at San Antonio's highest-profile intersection, announcing what is likely to be the biggest local retail project of 2018.
The Live Oak Town Center, at the southwest corner of Interstate 35 and Loop 1604, will add more than 800K SF of retail space to the San Antonio market. The 300K SF IKEA will be a first for San Antonio and South Texas.
Weitzman City partner Michael Schoenbrun said the 111-acre property, the last undeveloped corner of the major interchange, is expected to draw traffic from throughout the region and as far away as Mexico, serving a trade area of up to 13 million people.
IKEA expects to start construction on its 30-acre pad site next spring, with completion set for the following spring. The first phase of adjacent retail and mixed-use space will open in late 2019.
