| Hord Coplan Macht director of design Chris Harvey says his organization is about not just placing a building on a site but how a building integrates with a neighborhood. Much of design today is truly mixed-use, little microcosms of a city, he says. That's why it's important that his firm has strong planning and landscape architecture studios, he says, as well as multi-disciplinary focuses on specific sectors like multifamily, healthcare, and education. HCM?s portfolio includes large mixed-use projects in DC and NoVa (an Alexandria branch opened recently to handle demand).
