Patty Rouse, who co-founded The Enterprise Foundation (now Enterprise Community Partners) with late husband Jim Rouse, died yesterday of non-Hodgkin?s lymphoma at Vantage House in Columbia. She was 85 and had struggled with Alzheimer?s disease for 10 years. The duo's cause started when three women from their Church of the Saviour in DC put down a deposit in 1972 to purchase the Ritz and Mozart apartment buildings. Inspired, Jim helped them secure $625k to finish the deal and $125k for rehab, helping launch Jubilee Housing. Ten years later, Jim and Patty, who married in '74, started Enterprise with the goal of helping every American live in a decent home. Thirty years later, their organization is one of the leading sources of development capital for affordable housing. Contributions can be made to The Patty Rouse Fund, Enterprise Community Partners, 10227 Wincopin Circle, American City Building, Suite 500, Columbia, MD 21044-3400. |
