Survey Says Mayor's Financial Fixes Won't Work
Baltimore's denizens have little faith that Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake's 10-year financial plan will do any good. The almost three-quarters of respondents to our poll who doubt the measures' efficacy cite:increasing fees as a disincentive; too many entitlements being a burden on taxpayers; and too many restrictions on how the money should be spent. One commenter says the proposal of proactive measures is in itself encouraging, but others called for specific fixes: lower taxes to rival surrounding counties and a transit system to connect the suburbs to the city's neighborhoods and workplaces. (If you can't beat 'em, connect to 'em via train?)
