Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, UAE presidential advisor Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, and NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg give an assist to Johns Hopkins Children's Center patient Gavin Michel-Baird at Thursday's ribbon-cutting for Johns Hopkins Hospital's new 1.6M SF patient towers in East Baltimore. |
The Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children's Center is named in honor of Bloomberg's late mother. It has 205 rooms and 10 surgical suites for pediatric patients, plus family sleeping accommodations, kitchen and laundry facilities, and a playroom with a basketball court and TV studio, not to mention the Monet-inspired facade. NYC's Mayor Mike is a 1964 engineering grad of JHU and its largest donor, dating back to a $5 gift back in '65. |
The Sheikh Zayed Tower, rendered above, is named after UAE president Sheikh Khalifa's father, the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, 1971 founder of the UAE. It'll house the Johns Hopkins Heart and Vascular Institute and neurological and neurosurgical, transplant surgery, trauma care, orthopedics, general surgery, and labor and delivery services. It has 355 private patient rooms and a helistop. |
