Here's A Sneak Peek At The Restaurant Opening In The Former Gunther Brewery
The historic Gunther brewery complex, which includes the iconic Natty Boh Tower, will soon be home to a new restaurant that bears the name of the suds it once produced.
Restaurateurs Nancy Hart Mola and Jerry Trice (pictured) will open the nearly 300-seat Gunther & Co in Brewers Hill in early May, serving modern American cuisine with global influences.
Located in the Gunther Brewing Co building at 3650 Toone St, the restaurant will house a raw bar, a wood-burning oven, an open kitchen and outdoor seating. The restaurant’s business partners and landlord Obrecht Commercial Real Estate invested $3.5M in the space, preserving many of the historic details.
Exposed brick, steel beams and 30-foot ceilings add drama to the main dining room, says Nancy, former owner of Silver Spring’s 8407 kitchen bar. The owners chose materials that enhance the building’s industrial look, including furniture made out of steel beams and Edison-style light bulbs.
A 16-foot green wall next to the stairs leading to the mezzanine will act as a sound buffer and filter the air. “I wanted to bring something alive into the space,” Nancy says.
With hundreds of new apartments and surrounding retail developments in Brewers Hill and Canton, now seemed like the right time to open in the area. “It’s an exciting time for Brewers Hill and Canton," Nancy says. "I am excited about being a part of such a vibrant community.”
