Retail Roundup: Starbucks Opening Near EBDI; Iron Rooster Opening Third Location
Starbucks will open a new store early next year near Johns Hopkins Hospital in East Baltimore as part of a larger initiative to employ youths in poor neighborhoods.
Baltimore is one of five new cities the coffee giant designated as part of this program, the Baltimore Sun reports. The others are located in Seattle, Miami, Birmingham, Ala., and Long Beach, Calif.
The new Baltimore shop will open in an office/lab on Ashland Street in the planned science and technology park, East Baltimore Development Inc. [Sun]
Popular breakfast spot Iron Rooster will open its third location this fall at Hunt Valley Towne Centre, the Baltimore Business Journal reports. Known for its homemade pop tarts, the restaurant got its start in Annapolis and expanded to the Shops at Canton Crossing late last year. It will take over the spot of shuttered Joe's Crab Shack, although no date has been confirmed. [BBJ]
Ruth's Chris Steak House opened Sept. 26 at the Village of Odenton Station, an apartment community owned by the Dolben Co. Klein Enterprises handles the retail leasing. The 8k SF restaurant includes a bar, patio and banquet rooms. [Patch]
