Peak Funky? Birmingham Car Park To Become Hotel
One of the world's funkiest urban hotel brands is coming to a Birmingham multi-storey car park.
Nyx, the young on-trend brand owned by Isreali-based Fattal Hotels, is to debut in the UK in Birmingham. The city will join a select list of 10 Nyx locations including Munich, Milan, Mannheim, New York and Bilbao.
In a boost to local pride, Birmingham has beaten Manchester to become the first Nyx UK outlet, Business Desk reports.
The 261-bed hotel will be created on the site of the Berkley Street multi-storey car park.
A £33M development over 11 floors will reduce the car parking on-site, and is next to the existing Jury's Hotel.
Jury's are backing the application, which has now gone before city planners. Fattal acquired an interest in Jury's in 2017.
Data from HVS showed the Birmingham hotel market holding stable despite an increase in the supply of new rooms. Revenue per available room has been gradually recovering from a sharp dip in 2015, research showed.
Responding to the trend some Birmingham developers have preferred not to pursue hotel plans, opting instead for alternative leisure or office uses.
