Here Come The Colmore Parklets
"Parklets" will be coming to the Colmore area of Birmingham under plans revealed by the area's business improvement district.
The BID 3 proposals document suggests mini-parks as one of the innovations supported by the £5M raised through a levy on business rates.
The parklets — or pocket parks — will add to the St Philip's Cathedral churchyard, popular on normal sunny May lunchtimes, although only visited by hardier office workers this year.
The BID will “install pocket parks throughout the district, creating new micro spaces for people to sit, to chat, and to enjoy,” the document said.
There could also be digital screens for Colmore Square to allow outdoor events with an "ambitious curated program of content."
The document also pledged to "continue to deliver Colmore BID’s Spatial Masterplan by influencing regeneration plans for the district and ensure strong connections to the HS2 station at Curzon Street."
