WinnProperties Supports Tech Access At South End Affordable Property
Here are WinnCompanies' Arthur Winn and Larry Curtis (back, middle) dropping off a check for $50k toward the renovation of a 1k SF program space for the Square Tech Computer Repair and Training Center. Square Tech was created at the 500-unit Castle Square apartments in the South End, with ongoing support from the WinnCompanies, to provide affordable access to technology to the building's residents.
Castle Square Tenants Organization (CSTO) is the majority owner of Castle Square; WinnCompanies is a minority owner. “Thirty years ago, WinnCompanies made a commitment to preserve and maintain affordable housing at Castle Square," Curtis said.
Among other initiatives for the property, WinnCompanies and CSTO completed the country's largest Deep Energy Retrofit on an affordable housing property, earning Castle Square LEED Platinum. Square Tech was launched in the back office of the CSTO administration building, which it has since outgrown. The new space will allow it to work better toward its goal of building workforce computer skills for teens.
