19th Century Office Still Appeals To Tenants
GLL Real Estate Partners is launching a $500k renovation of the faade and lobby at historic 70 Franklin St (middle doorway), built in 1873 and still welcoming new tenants (though statistically those tenants are taller). JoS. A. Bank Clothiers has agreed to lease 4,800 SF for 10 years--and DTZ, a UGL Company, will take 2,200 SF, making the 86k SF building nearly full. Designed by prolific Boston architect Nathaniel Bradlee after the Great Fire of 1872, its one of the citys finer examples of Italianate style, says Boston Landmarks Commission executive director Ellen Lipsey. Work on the upgrades, including a re-designed entrance with steel awning, is scheduled to start in the spring.
