Who's Building On The Marathon Route, Part 2: Framingham
We're prepping runners for new projects they'll see while running the Boston Marathon. (The first thing on anyone's mind when they're sweaty and tired is, "What's the square footage of that mixed-use property?") See our previous look at the Ashland leg. Today, we travel into Framingham along Route 135.
Jack's Abby

What's the Deal:Water not quenching your runner's thirst? The new expanded Jack's Abby brewery is alongside the route, in the Dennison Building. Calare Properties made some major improvements to attract new tenants, then customized it for a brewery. The new site includes a 5k SF restaurant, named the Jack's Abby Beer Hall, which features 18-foot-long communal tables. There's also a horseshoe-shaped bar with 24 different Jack's Abby beers on tap. Stone's Public House's former head chef Greg Bergeron runs the kitchen, which provides wood-fired fare like pizza and wiener schnitzel, in addition to 10 appetizers and entrees.

What's the Deal: This new subdivision features 28 homes ranging from 1,791 SF to 2,082 SF. There are three different three-bedroom layouts with three levels and a basement, and there's one two-story floor plan with two bedrooms and a basement. Homeowners also have a choice of one- or two-car garages. Finishes include granite countertops and hardwood floors.

Developer: South Middlesex Opportunity Council

What's the Deal: Nonprofit social service agency SMOC is looking to convert this 10-bedroom home into a residential program for up to 11 families in crisis. The program would provide counseling, as well as financial and nutritional education for the families. Then it will help the families find long-term housing and employment.
Dennison Block

What's the Deal: Developers are pushing plans to convert this office space of the former Dennison Manufacturing plant into a residential building. Permits call for 79 apartments on four floors, with basement parking and storage. The Dennison redevelopment has a rocky past, with former developers filing Chapter 11 on the neighboring Dennison Bishop building years ago, after 82 potential homeowners had already placed deposits. Most of the units were later converted to rental homes in 2011, after it was sold at auction for $10M. Meanwhile, tenants Tetra Tech and SMOC have stuck around, and it appears from the permits that more postponed residential conversions may finally take place.
