| We snapped residential value guru Carl ?Chip? Case (co-founder of the S&P Case Shiller Index) Wednesday as a Parkinson?s Disease fundraiser wound down at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The index (measuring the value of existing single-family houses) indicates continued challenge for owners eager to sell so they can rent. But it adds to the renter pool with owners who have lost their houses and encourages potential owners to delay buying and rent instead. Chip doesn?t expect the stagnant single-family housing industry to revive anytime soon. He says it has a $5 trillion problem that hasn?t been marked to market. Job creation by small to mid-sized business could help grow the way out. |
