On Wednesday , Caritas Communities will celebrate the completion of its latest renovation project at 23-25 Alaska St in Roxbury, executive director Mark Winkeller tells us. A former rooming house vacant for about 18 months, the non-profit developer spent $2.4M on rehab, installing new mechanicals, windows, siding, and a private bath for each of the 17 rooms. They're rented to working individuals, some of who were homeless. Residents pay $538/month including hot water and electricity. Acquisition and construction financing came from the state and the City of Boston. Caritas owns 29 houses with 714 one-room units.
