Edward Kennedy Institute Rising
April 11, 2011
After nearly 10 years of planning, the Kennedy clan and friends broke ground Friday on the $60M Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the US Senate at the UMass Boston campus. |
Pictured at the Columbia Point site are UMass Boston Chancellor J. Keith Motley, Beacon Capital Partner's Fred Seigel, UMass president Jack Wilson, Victoria Reggie Kennedy, former Senator Paul Kirk, Governor Deval Patrick, Mayor Thomas Menino, state Senate President Therese Murray, and state Speaker of the House, Robert Deleo. The 40k SF Rafael Vinol-designed building, slated for completion in two and a half years, is being developed by the EMK Institute and UMass, adjacent to the JFK Library. It will include interactive exhibit space, a reproduction of the US Senate chamber, classrooms and archival space. Its academic and research programs will complement those offered by UMass and the McCormack Graduate School for Policy and Global Studies. |
