GREEN SHOOTS
Stuart Kaplow, Mary Pulcinella, and David Pratt at The Hotel at Arundel Preserve on Jan. 26, 2012
Thursday was also the USGBC Maryland chapter's annual Wintergreen awards at The Hotel at Arundel Preserve. Celebrating were sustainability and green building lawyer Stuart Kaplow (who just wrapped up two years chairing the chapter and tells us he touched 81 green building projects this year), chapter exec director Mary Pulcinella, and Lorax's David Pratt, whose LoraxPro LEED certification software won the President's Award. He says Lorax partnered with USGBC to create LEED Automation, a program that integrates LEED-Online with third-party software like its own. Mary tells us Maryland USGBC will host tours of Wintergreen-winning buildings throughout the year (stay tuned to the organization's website or sign up for the newsletter). The next call for nominations will go out in early September.
Tom Wahl, Tracy Marquis, Prescott Gaylord, and Janice Romanosky at The Hotel at Arundel Preserve on Jan. 26, 2012
Hamel Builders' Tom Wahl, Wintergreen committee chair Tracy Marquis of Ayers Saint Gross (Design Firm of the Year), Hamel's Prescott Gaylord (the evening's emcee), and Pando Alliance's Janice Romanosky. Tom tells us Hamel Builders recently began a 46k SF rec center in Ellicott City that's aiming for LEED Gold. Tracy is working on construction for the Howard Community College Health Sciences Building, a 113k SF project seeking LEED Silver. And Prescott is working on Howard County's first LEED for Homes Platinum development, The Cottages at Greenwood, which will also be affordable. Janice does third-party certification work for residential projects, including The Cottages, and is working with several developers on Energy Star ratings for their HUD Neighborhood Stabilization Project2.
