Great Society Housing Goes Solar
October 28, 2010
The Cambridge Housing Authority has launched a $29M project to renovate and improve energy efficiency at the Lyndon B. Johnson Apartments at 150 Erie St. The 37-year-old complex is named after LBJ, who promoted the massive development of affordable public housing across the country as part of his Great Society program. In 1965, he founded the US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development , which ultimately oversaw the construction of millions of apartments. Now, the city, with SkanskaUSA managing construction, will repair and upgrade the LBJ apartments and install what will be Cambridge?s largest solar installation. |
